From a young age Melissa was always involved in sport. "Growing up I tried everything; rugby, swimming, ballet, tennis, athletics, hockey, football and karate."


Melissa started volleyball at school being selected for the U16 Northern Ireland Volleyball team and played in the UK School Games. 


"At school we won the league, schools cup and all Ireland’s." At 16 Melissa moved into the U19 squad and competed in CEV Europeans in Liechtenstein.


Taking a break from volleyball from 2009-2012 Melissa went to university and trained to be a Diagnostic Radiographer. 


On returning home from university, she picked up where she left off, joining the Senior Women’s National Team for both Indoor and Beach Volleyball.


Since then Melissa has competed in;

Aside from volleyball, Melissa also plays rugby for Belfast Harlequins Women's RFC. "The two best things about rugby are that there is a place for everyone and the friendships really are for life. I also really enjoy the training as it is a test of physical fitness, strength, coordination and stamina but most of all, you have so much fun!"
